The eyes of faith
by
Ruth BarnesI always knew that God was there –
‘Twas taught on Mother’s knee.
I learned of mighty men of old
And how God answered prayer.
But as the years passed slowly by,
The light began to dawn:
My Mother’s faith was her’s alone –
I had to have my own.I prayed a simple, childlike prayer
And thus was born anew.
I’d started on the path of faith,
My heart was all aglow. Many years have now passed by
Since that first step of faith,
And still my trust is in the Lord
Who saved me by his grace.Sometimes the path ahead is dark,
Sometimes the light shines through.
Yet faith must cling to what it knows,
Not look ahead for proof. But when this life comes to an end
I’ll see my Lord on high
And then I’ll understand at last –
When faith is given eyes.
