Choose you this day
by
Ruth Barnes

"Choose you this day whom you will serve,"
The words rang loud and clear.
"Destroy the idols in your midst
And learn the Lord to fear."

And who were those who heard the words?
A pagan, hostile crowd?
No, God's own people, who had known
His blessings on them show'red

He'd led them through the wilderness
Into the promised land.
No other people had been kept
By God's protecting hand.

So why did Joshua that day
Plead with the people so?
They'd seen so many miracles -
Why did he think they'd go?

Our God knows each and every heart,
And you to Him belong.
Your friends may look admiringly
And think you're standing strong.

Yet are you clinging, holding fast
To idols, so to speak?
Are you prepared to let them go,
And kneel down at his feet?

This life is short. Will you decide
God's perfect will to choose?
For those who yield their all to him
Will never ever lose.
