he triangle - a simple shape. But when correctly employed -
as a member in the structure of a bridge or some great contruction it has tremendous strength.
It is stable, it withstands pressure and it is not easily toppled.
But when that same triangle is turned upside down it loses that stability -
it becomes a shaky foundation on which to build.
Today, relationships, particularly in marriage, are being turned upside down.
But God has set His correct order for relationships so that they can be built soundly
and firmly established.
His order is husband and wife jointly forming the base looking up to God. A bit like the
triangle pointing upwards.
And as their relationship grows it leads them closer to each other... and hence closer to God.
But when the triangle is pointing down, with self as the base, the whole structure becomes
unstable until it falls - leaving those involved, bruised and hurt.
The Bible speaks of marriage and addresses both husband and wife:
"Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands..
Husbands, love your wives..." (Ephesians 5 v22 & 25)
Our age ignors this wise counsel and it leads to selfishness, disloyal wives and unloving husbands.
It is no surprise that divorce is so common.
Marriage is not just an opportunity for a grand ceremony or a thing of convenience - it is about
commitment to each other.
The Bible uses marriage as a wonderful picture of the relationship between God and his Church.
God loves His church - those who have commited their lives to Him. And Christians, (His church)
as the bride give themselves in submission to Him in the perfect relationship.
Relationships can be difficult, but God wants us to know that we can experience lasting
relationships if we will trust Him and His plan for our lives.
