No news is good news
It seems that if "no news is good news", the opposite is also true.
It's almost impossible to read the newspaper without seeing another gloomy headline. Only occasionally does
there seem to be any good news, but this is quickly overshadowed by the latest tragedy. We just never seem
to get the news we want to hear. War and sickness feature where we would want to see peace and happiness.
But stop for just a minute.
If we pay attention to what God says, these things will not surprise or shock us. The Bible says that these things
would be so: that nation should rise against nation.
Earthquakes, famines, perils and diseases - all these, Jesus said, would take place before He returns.
More bad news?
The Bible compares the times in which we live with the times of Noah, where sin and selfishness ruled man's
heart. The situation in those times was so bad that God had to deal with the sin. Yet He provided a way of
escape for those who would trust Him. The world was destroyed with a flood, but Noah and his family, who set
themselves apart from sin and trusted God, were saved.
Confronted by God
Man continues to disobey God's word today. But sadly when confronted with the Bible's view many rush to the
shelter of phrases such as 'religion always starts arguments - I'm just not interested.'
In religion? - neither is God!
He wants to see as many as will trust Him find an escape from the clutches of sin and its consequences - the
sadness and heartache that we experience now.
The bottom line
The world as a whole seems to be without hope. Its troubles will not go away or solve themselves. In fact things
will probably get worse. But for the individual there is hope.
The Good News
God has provided that hope in His only begotten Son, Jesus who without sin paid the penalty for our sin! When
He died on the cross He made the way of escape which is available to all who will receive it. For those who
place their trust in Jesus. His love and presence will not make the headlines any less gloomy, but will give the
strength needed to cope with this world's bad news and will give a certain hope of joy and peace for now and
through all eternity.
