Who is Jesus?

It's a question that countless thousands have asked over the centuries. Who is Jesus?

Mankind, by his own invention has made Jesus amongst other things, a 'good man' or a 'teacher of truth' or 'just another religious leader'.

But the Bible, which is God's revealed word to man, has made no secret of who Jesus really is. Throughout the Bible we find that Jesus is revealed to us through the names by which He is called.

The very name Jesus means 'He will save His People' (from their sin) which makes clear why elsewhere He is called Saviour and Redeemer. When Jesus came into this world as a babe at Bethlehem He was born of a virgin, but His Father is God, the Almighty.

Son of God is therefore a name which He must own because He is sent from His Father above, but Son of Man also because He was sent to live and die as man.

But before He was born into this world He was with the Father in Heaven's glory. John's gospel says (Ch1 v1):
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." Jesus is revealed as the Word of God, who is God! John goes on to say that "All things were made by Him; and without Him was not anything made that was made." Jesus is the Creator!

Because God is revealed in Jesus His name is also Emmanuel - God with us.(Heb) and again John says "In Him was life; and the life was the light of men." Jesus is the light of the world. Light that is able to shine into the uttermost darkness and reveal all. So evident is this when we see wickedness and evil shying away from His perfect light!

And He is the Life. Jesus, spoke to His disciples and said "I AM the Way, the Truth and the Life."

When Jesus used the words "I AM" He was making more than just a statement, He was declaring who He is. "I AM" is the eternal name of God! From everlasting to everlasting Jesus could say "I AM ".
