Sand Dunes Back to God's World | Back to Land & Sea The highest measured sand dunes are to be found in central Algeria, in the Sahara desert. The highest dunes measuring up to 430 metres high. Only about one tenth of the Sahara desert is actually covered with wind-blown sand. The remainder is made up of gravel plains, plateaus and mountains. Most of the sand is found in 25 large 'sand-seas' called ergs and these are quite distinct from the surrounding sand-free desert. Often a very desolate and a dry place - one day God will make the desert a very fruitful and lush place.
