The Love of God in Action

Mrs Josephine E. Butler was a nineteenth Century reformer who campaigned tirelessly and successfully against the licensing of state brothels and all legislation which degraded the lot of women.
One of the first girls she rescued from the streets was Marion, a teenager from a Liverpool slum.
As the girl had nowhere else to go, Josephine Butler took her into her own home and treated her as a daughter. Marion suffered from consumption and in fact, had only another three months to live, but during that time she surprised her visitors with her knowledge of the New Testament.

One day, a well-known clergyman called. He knew nothing of Marion's past but he went up to see her, thinking he might possibly be able to cheer her up. When he came down again he had to admit that it wasn’t him that had helped her so much as she who had helped him she was, he said “a young saint, so young yet so enlightened, and so near to God."

Oh, how God's love and care shown to those in need, is able to transform lives. God's love is available to all - and can work in all!
