‘Twas a long way down to Bethlehem
With the baby due any day
And when they finally reached the town
They could find no place to stay.
Mary and Joseph only wanted a room,
But the inns were full to the door
Not a bed nor a cot could be found that night
Not even a place on the floor
The time had come for the babe to be born;
He was laid in a manger of hay
And an angel was send to let people know:
“A Saviour is born today.”
The Shepherds came down from the fields to see
What the angel had told them about.
When they saw the baby they knew at once
It was the Lord, without a doubt.
For God so loved all the people on earth
That He sent His only Son.
He came as a baby, then grew to a man
Giving His life for everyone.
He still loves people like you and me
And wants us to love him too
If we tell him we’re sorry for all we’ve done wrong
He’ll forgive us and make us anew.
