The Message from Heaven
by Ruth Barnes

The Shepherds were quietly watching their sheep
While the rest of the world was fast asleep
The only light came from the fire nearby
And the distant stars twinkling in the sky

When suddenly an angel appeared in the night
And the glory of God shone around like a light
They were frightened and wondered what on earth It could be,
But, "I bring you good news of great joy," said he.

"For a Saviour is born to you this day
In Bethlehem's manger you'll see Him lay."
Then a whole host of angels filled the sky
Praising and worshipping God on high:

"Glory to God" and "Peace on the earth
Shall come to mankind because of Christ's birth."
Then the angels went back to heaven once more
And the dark, cloudless night was as still as before.

But the shepherds decided to start on their way
Down to Bethlehem town before break of day.
When they got there they found that the message was true
For they saw the Lord Jesus - a baby so new.

So they glorified God and they told everyone
That the babe in the manger was God's only Son.
He came to this earth to live amongst men
Then he died and He rose and He went back to heav'n
If we ask His forgiveness and His word obey
We'll go to live with Him in heaven one day.
